Abdul Wahab Rana, owner of Ruppur Medicare Clinic in Ruppur, Ishwardi, Pabna has been arrested on charges of collecting samples and giving false reports for corona testing of officials and employees working at the Ruppur nuclear power plant without the approval of the health department.

Ishwardi police arrested him around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. Rana is the son of Jamat Ali of Ruppur area.

According to Ruppur project workers and police sources, Abdul Wahab have been secretly involved in the project for corona testing. He collected samples by pitching a tent in an abandoned brick field in the market area.

They sent the sample to Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital. They charge 5 to 6 thousand taka for each report. The report was then sent online from Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital to Rooppur Medicare Clinic.

From there the report is given to the people who provide the sample through computer print.

However, only institutions approved by the Ministry of Health of the government will collect the samples. Subject to the approval of the Civil Surgeon, they will go to the designated PCR lab for examination.

Reports should also be collected through the Civil Surgeon's Office or the Upazila Health Complex. However, without following any of these rules, the director of Ruppur Medicare Clinic has illegally made a hefty sum of money in the name of collecting and testing corona samples.

Further investigation revealed that the negative reports of corona test of the workers of the project have the signature of Dr. Abu Saeed, the chairman of Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital.

Despite the negative report, the number of corona infection among the workers in the project is increasing.

As a result, the reports provided by Ruppur Medicare Clinic has started to be widely criticised.

When contacted, Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital chairman Abu Saeed said on his mobile phone, "I don't know Abdul Wahab Rana, the owner of Ruppur Medicare Clinic."

However, we sent the test report of 50 people from that institution on July 8. He further said that the workers of Ruppur project contacted with us for corona test.

We thought that Ruppur Medicare was conducting corona test with government approval. But since we know that this institution does not have government approval, we are no longer accepting samples for testing.

Ishwardi Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Nasir Uddin said Abdul Wahab Rana, owner of Ruppur Medicare Clinic, had illegally collected samples and provided reports to workers working on the Ruppur power project for corona testing without the approval of the health department.

He was first arrested. After filing the case, he was arrested and sent to jail through Pabna court.
