Int’l confce on film, media and journalism at DU

The first International BIMSTEC Film, Media and Journalism Studies Conference has been organized at Dhaka University (DU) on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the 3-day international conference at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium at DU campus on Sunday, January 19, 2020. 

The conference was jointly organized by the DU Television, Film and Photography Department and the Media and Mass Communication Department of American International University Bangladesh.

BIMSTEC Secretary General Ambassador M Shahidul Islam and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Sadika Halim were the special guests at the inaugural ceremony of the conference chaired by Divisional Chairperson Habiba Rahman. Conference convenor Professor Dr AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan gave the welcome address at the event. In addition, departmental teachers, media experts, local researchers and students participated in the programme.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said that the role of media in the fourth industrial revolution is very important and media is one of the driving forces of this revolution. Thanking the organizers for arranging the conference, the Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that the participants of the conference would play a vital role in diversifying the print and electronic media and in policy-making to prevent media abuse.

After the inauguration, former Vice-Chancellor of Central Tamil Nadu University Professor Dr B P Sanjay presented the keynote in the first session of the conference.

It is important to note that at various sessions of this conference, well-known researchers from all over the country will present 32 articles on film, media and journalism. Canada's professor Prof Dr Yuezhi Zhao will present the closing essay. Members of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) - Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan are participating in the conference.
