Initiative taken to plant palm tree, golpata in Khulna

Mangrove Silviculture Department and Bangladesh Forest Research Institute on Tuesday jointly arranged a workshop at Batia Ghata upazila in Khulna to take initiative for planting palm tree and Golpata. Speakers at the workshop said that the government gives importance to plant palm tree and Goalpata. To prevent thunderstorm, planting more palm tree is important. Everyone needs trees from birth to death.

Speakers at the workshop said that Golpata is seen almost everywhere including the Sundarban. Golpata is a potential mangrove plant species in Bangladesh. A variety of toys including umbrella, raincoat, basket, mat, bag, paper are made with this plant. Instead of relying on the Sundarban, steps should be taken to plant Golpata in different places including the surroundings, low areas, rivers, canals, water bodies.
Ahmed Ziaur Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Batiaghata presided over the programme. 

M Akramul Islam, Resource Officer of Khulna Mangrove Silviculture Department and Rabiul Islam, Agriculture Officer of the upazila spoke there. ASM Helal Siddiqi, divisional officer of Khulna mangrove silviculture department instructed the participant. Approximately 40 farmers of the locality participated in the workshop.
