Indian smuggler held with gold bars in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Thursday detained an Indian national with 10 pieces of gold bars worth Tk 58.50 lakh from Daulotpur border area under Benapole Port Police Station.

The arrestee was identified as Gopal Sarker 50, son of Sibupodo Sarker of Kaliani village in North 24 Pargona of West Bengal.

BGB-21 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Emranullah Sarker confirmed the matter. He said that acting on a tip-off, BGB members conducted a drive in Daulatpur bordering area and arrested the Indian gold smuggler with the gold bars.

The gold bars were deposited to Benapole customs godown. A case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station in this connection.
