Eminent economist, Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, on Saturday said ensuring human rights, human dignity, eliminating disparity, establishing equality and inclusion of all in the development process are the main tools to building a happy and prosperous society. Dr Ahmed said, attaining the SDG goals are also possible thorough all these, but all concerned need to work together very hard, in this regard.
Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad made the remarks at a reception, accorded to him on his receiving the 'Independence Award-2019' by the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA), at the IEB auditorium at Ramna in the city. "The main foundation of my philosophy is the human being, and as human beings, we must honour each other and must eliminate disparity from the society which is also the main philosophy of our Constitution," Ahmad said.
President of BEA, Prof Dr Abul Barakat presided over the reception ceremony while Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Fazle Kabir, General Secretary, BEA, Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed, and wife of Dr. QK Ahmad, Dr Zaheda Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. Terming Dr. QK Ahmad an exceptional economist, the BB Governor said, usually the researchers remain busy with research, but QK Ahmad works hard to utilize the research findings for the welfare of the people as well as for poverty elimination.
He has worked relentlessly to bring the female forces to the forefront of the society and to ensure equal opportunity for all in the society. While addressing, Dr. Abul Barakat termed him as a humanistic and development economist. "Dr. Ahmad has contributed to turn the PKSF as a people- oriented and human-centric organisation from a traditional organisation. He wholeheartedly wish so that the economic development may occur along with the people, deprived of opportunity", Barakat added.
Speakers mentioned that Dr. Ahmad is a researcher who has done research, economics and at the same time, implemented research findings for the wellbeing of the people practically. He is a restless trailblazer in giving economics a touch of humanity. Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman is currently discharging the responsibility as Chairman of Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF) and Director of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE). He also was honored with 'Ekushey Padak-2009' for his contribution in social services through poverty eradication.
