The HSC results have been published and the time for being anxious about the results is over. The huge pass rate in the Higher Secondary Certificate results is a great achievement, not only of the students but the entire nation as well. From here, future leaders, engineers, doctors, lawyers and law enforcers will emerge. As this is the second step and national certification of students this has an important impact on their career in future.
It is laudable that the pass rate this year is significantly higher than the previous ones. This goes to say that the level of education in Bangladesh is becoming more and more standardized with the world. Moreover, the brilliance of the students is evident in the grade sheets as well. A total of 909 institutions achieving 100 percent pass rate is truly an amazing achievement for the country. But, only looking at the pros and forgetting the cons of this nationwide trial would be a silly mistake.

Reports point to the fact that 41 colleges have zero percent pass rate in the HSC exams of this year. Prior to this the number of colleges was higher at 55. It is acceptable that the number has decreased since last year. However, a proper investigation should be conducted to identify the reasons behind such a calamity befalling on the students of these colleges. In 2017 too there were a number of colleges that performed poorly with zero pass rate.
The authorities concerned should take heed on this and find out why the students are failing at these colleges, and whether these are the same colleges where students are failing. The appropriate reasons should be found and adequate steps should be taken so that this doesn’t happen in future.
