A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws over dowry at Koikhali village in Jashore sadar upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Lubna Yasmin, 20, daughter of Abdul Mannan of Koikhali village at the upazila.
Husband of the victim Masudur Rahman and his mother Taslima Begum escaped from the house after the incident. Quoting the deceased’s family members, Moniruzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said that Lubna married to Masudur Rahman of Koikhali Village couple of years ago. Since the marriage, Lubna Yasmin had often been tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry.
Recently, deceased’s parents gave Tk 50 thousand to Masudur Rahman but the latter kept pressuring the victim for Tk 1 lakh more, the victims father Abdul Mannan said.
On the day of the incident, Masudur got into a quarrel with Laboni over money and killed her by suffocating victim’s family members and neighbours separately informed the matter to police, who recovered the body today and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy. said her father Abdul Mannan.
