The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered authorities concerned to conduct probe against Feni additional district magistrate PK Enamul Karim, who is also the governing body chairman of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa, over sexual harassment and murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi. A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond in this regard, reports BSS.

The court asked Public Administration Secretary and Education Secretary to conduct the probe and submit report within 30 days. Advocate Akond moved the plea himself, while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Basher stood for the state. “The court asked to conduct probe against PK Enamul Karim and submit report by 30 days. The High Court also issued a rule, asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why their inaction in taking steps against madrasa principal Sirajuddoula after getting complaint of sexual harassment against him,” Akond told newsmen.

Public Administration Secretary, Education Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Feni Deputy Commissioner, Superintendant of Police and officer in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, were made respondents in the writ. Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 by Sirajuddoula’s stooges and succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.

Nusrat had accused Sirajuddoula of harassing her sexually on March 27 while she was exposed to his extreme vengeance on April 6 when she went to the madrasa to appear in Alim examination. A group of masked youths, later found to be the cronies of the disgraced principal, took Nusrat to the rooftop of the madrasa and set her on fire after tying her with her scarf.
