Harassment of BSMRSTU journalist protested

The journalists of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Thursday formed a human chain protesting suspension order and harassment of a journalist of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj.

IU Journalists’ Association (IUJA) and IU Press Club joint organised the human chain on the campus as per the declaration of the University Campus Journalists’ Federation.

Rumi Noman, correspondent of daily Prothom Alo, conducted the human chain with IU Press Club President Ferdausur Rahman Shohag in the chair.

IUJA president Emran Shuvro, vice president K.M Mahfuz Mishu, Secretary Humayun Kobir Jibon, Press Club vice president Asif Khan and its secretary Shahadath Hossain Timir spoke there, among others.

While addressing, the leaders condemned the suspension of Jinia and demanded that the authorities of BSMRSTU would have to fill up the 4-point demands of University Campus Journalist Federation soon.

The journalists threatened to go for hardline measures if the demands are not met with the association of federation, speakers added.

On September 10, Fatema Tuz Zinia, a second year student of Law department at BSMRSTU allegedly suspended  for posting a status on her Facebook account, which the authorities claimed tarnished the university’s image.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra League men of BSMRSTU allegedly carried out an attack on Shams Jebin, BSMRSTU reporter of the Daily Alokito Bangladesh, for speaking in favour of Zinia.
