For the first time in the country’s aviation history, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been permitted to operate mobile courts. The operations will be conducted in areas covered by the airlines. The operations will be led by an executive magistrate deputed from the ministry of public administration in areas like luggage handling, passenger harassment, ticket fraud and crime minimizing at the airport.

In a circular from the Ministry of Public Administration last Sunday, Deputy Secretary Ziauddin Ahmed (promoted to joint secretary) has been appointed to the post. At present he has been acting as director (administration) of Biman, and from the same post, he will also perform the newly-assigned responsibility.
According to the circular, the mobile court will be able to give immediate punishment or fine for violating of obligations of Biman property, anti Biman safety crime law, smoking and tobacco (control) law and wall writing and poster control law.

According to Biman’s information, the national flag carrier is operating flights from three international and other domestic airports, and beside this, the organisation has its own building or property at different places in the country. It has own ticket sales offices at Motijheel and Banani. Despite tickets being available at these counters, passengers are sometimes unable to purchase tickets, on the other hand after arrival, passengers also have to suffer to get their luggage at the airport.

As per the prime minister’s directives to remove such irregularities, mobile court will take proper initiatives. Apart from these, the mobile court will also take measures to secure Biman and its passenger’s movement. At the same time it will also recover the illegally-occupied Biman assets and bring the occupiers under legal action.

Biman’s general manager (public relations) Tahera Khondoker told Bangladesh Post, for the first time in the country’s aviation history, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has got an executive magistrate to ensure passenger facilities and safety. At the same time, it will also work to stop irregularities, and recover occupied assets of the airlines.
