Green chili price has come down to Tk 80 per kilogramme (kg) which was selling at Tk 300 per kg few weeks back. After selling at Tk 200 per kg last week, the price has fallen further this week. Apart from this, the price of various vegetables has decreased by Tk 5 to Tk 10 per kg.
Sellers in different kitchen markets of the capital on Friday informed that the prices have come down due to adequate supply against the demand.
A vegetable seller at Karwan Bazar told this correspondent that even yesterday, they were selling chili for Tk 100 per kg but today (Friday) it is being sold at Tk 50 per kg.
Beans started arriving in the market from the past week with a
kg of Tk 200 per kg but this week its price has also reduced. Per kg bean is now selling at Tk 120 to Tk 150.
Like beans, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers are being sold at low prices. Tomato is being sold at Tk 100 per kg which was sold at Tk 130, carrot at Tk 100 that was sold at Tk 100 per kg last week. Apart from this, cucumbers are being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 80 per kg, less Tk 10 per kg.
Eggplant is being sold at Tk 50 per kg, last week it was sold for Tk 60. Among other vegetables, spiny gourd is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg, papaya at Tk 20 to Tk 25, pointed gourd at Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg, snake gourd at Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70, drumsticks at Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg, per piece gourd is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 60 depending on the variety.
Traders said that fresh vegetables were coming in huge quantities from different parts of the country, especially from Savar. So, the prices of vegetables are coming down.
Ginger and garlic were sold at Tk 120 per kg. Traders of those essentials said that even though the prices of ginger-garlic have increased at wholesale level, they are still selling it at a lower rate.
Onion was sold at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per kg last week but today (Friday) it is being sold at Tk 40 per kg. A kg of potato is being sold at Tk 25, which was sold at Tk 30 last week.
