Govt working to stop Padma erosion in Naria: Enamul

The Water Resources Ministry and the Water Development Board (WDB) have speeded up the work pace of embankment on the right bank of Padma River in Naria of Shariatpur district aiming to stop erosion in the area ahead of the next monsoon, reports BSS.

This was stated by Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim while visiting the progress of an erosion protection project on the bank of the Padma River in Sureshwar area of the district. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved a project of Taka 557.24 crore at the recent ECNEC meeting on the 29 October to protect the erosion-prone area in Char Atra, Nawa Para and Kachikata union of the district, he said.

Referring to another project taken to stop erosion from Mohanpur to Tarabunia area, the deputy minister expressed hope that the embankment will permanently stop the erosion from Jajira to Chandpur estuary. Project manager of the project Abdul Hekin, UNO of Naria Jayanti Rupa Ray, executive engineer of Shariatpur WDB Prakash Krishna Sarkar and officer in- charge of Naria Police Station Md Hafizur Rahman accompanied the minister during the visit.
