Govt to cut bane of fire accidents

The government has taken massive plans to bring fire accident under control across the country with setting up fire stations in all upazilas.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government is constantly working to strengthen the fire service. Some 129 new fire stations are being set up at upazila level to implement the plan.

He made these remarks while addressing ‘Fire Service and Civil Defense Week-2020’ on last Thursday.

He also said, “So far, there are 436 fire stations across the country. 129 new fire stations will be set up by 2021. As a result, the number of fire stations will be 565. In addition, there are plans to set up 11 more modern model fire stations. ”

He said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared to set up fire stations in every upazila, which is being implemented in phases. The fire service has 165 ambulances. It will be given to all fire stations in phases.”

He further said that 1,169 fire fighters have been trained abroad. Now an initiative has been taken to set up Bangabandhu Fire Academy for advanced training in the country.

Mentioning government initiatives to empower fire service, the government is working to increase the manpower of the fire service, ‘Before this government, the manpower of the fire service was 6,175 people. Now there are 13 thousand 100 people. Work is underway to increase this manpower to more than 25,000. '

Stating that people consider the fire service as a friend of danger, the minister said, “Fire fighters have always stood beside the people during any fire incident or natural disasters.” 

Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain said that through the service, this organization has gained the unwavering support and confidence of countless people of the country.
