Govt takes measures to keep market stable

As the prices of essential commodities continue to rise over the weeks the government has taken measures to keep the market stable, especially the rice market.

According to market data, it was learnt that, although the price of paddy has been low for some days, the rice market is still high as before.

In particular, the price of fine rice has increased by Tk 6 to Tk 10 per kilogram (kg). The price of coarse rice has gone up by Tk 2 to Tk 4 per kg. For this, extreme misery appeared in common people’s life.

According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Miniket rice was sold at Tk 65 to Tk 68 per kg which was being sold at Tk 55 to Tk 56 a month ago. As a result, the price per kg has increased by at least Tk 10 to Tk 12. The price of coarse rice was Tk 52 per kg which was being sold at Tk 47 a few days ago.

Prices of chicken, egg and vegetables have gone up again compared to previous week in the capital’s kitchen markets.

The price of Sonali chicken has gone up by Tk 20 per kg and broiler chicken by Tk 10 per kg. Price of a dozen of egg has risen by Tk 10. And the price of different vegetables has increased by Tk 5 to Tk 10 per kg.

The price situation was observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

Traders are selling broiler chickens at Tk 150 to Tk 155 per kg as against Tk 140 to Tk 145 last week. Sonali chicken was selling at Tk 260 to Tk 300 per kg, which was being sold at Tk 280 to Tk 260 last week. But the price of sonali per kg was Tk 220 to Tk 230 two weeks ago.

A chicken trader of Rampura kitchen market while talking to this correspondent said, “Chicken supply against market demand went low, as a result chicken price suddenly went high. We were also informed that chicken production has also decreased.”

A dozen of broiler egg was being sold for Tk 110 to Tk 120, which was was sold between Tk 105 and Tk 110 last week. And last week a piece of egg was sold at Tk 9 in grocery stores, now it has increased to Tk 10. Some traders are selling one piece of egg for Tk 11.

Like last week, bean was selling at Tk 120 to Tk 140 per kg, carrots and tomatoes were selling at Tk 100 to Tk 120 per kg. The prices of these two vegetables also remained unchanged during the week, prices of sponge gourd was Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg, bitter gourd was being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80, snake gourd was being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg.

Besides, parwal was selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg. Okrawais available for Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg and string bean was available at Tk 60 to Tk 90 per kg.

Garlic was being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 130 per kg and ginger at Tk 100 per kg. Turmeric was being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 220 per kg.

Sugar was being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, a packet of sugar was being sold at Tk 85 per kg.
