Fisheries and Livestock Minister S M Rezaul Karim said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is the most media-friendly government. During her time, the journey of television started in the private sector. During her time the most private televisions, newspapers and online portals were approved. In her time, the Right to Information Act was enacted. In the past, no one has come forward for the welfare of the disgraced journalists in the same way that Prime Miniter has provided financial assistance during the Coronation. She has recently donated Tk 10 crore to the Journalist Welfare Trust. If a journalist needs medical treatment abroad, he will get help from the government.”

The minister made the remarks at an exchange meeting on the occasion of the 9th founding anniversary of the daily Noakhali Pratidin at the Noakhali Zilla Samiti auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.

In this regard, he added, “The media must be developed for the welfare of the society, the state, the country and the people. The present government is in favor of the development of the media. The more the media expresses freedom of thought, the more our world of thought will be exposed. ”

Minister added, “The need for media is essential for the state because the media catches errors. As a result, those of us who are in government, in charge of the state, get the opportunity to do the right thing. There will be criticism in the media, as well as a picture of the government's development and progress. Then people will understand that even if something goes wrong, the government basically does a good job. ”

Addressing the journalists, the minister said, “Being involved in the media means loving the difficult path.”

Vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik, president of the editorial board of the daily Noakhali Pratidin Nasir Uddin, president of the Bangladesh Expatriate Welfare Organization Mohammad Omar Faruq and others also spoke in the programme.
