Global Migration Film Fest held at DU

Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) was held on Monday at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium, University of Dhaka. The day-long festival featured 15 films which captured the promise and challenges of migration, and the unique contributions that migrants make to their new communities. 

The festival was organized with the support of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Bangladesh with the support of the European Union in association with Dhaka University Film Society. 

The film festival was launched in 2016 to use films in order to inform, entertain, educate and provoke debate. 30 films were selected out of 600 submissions to be screened in 100 countries around the world. 15 of these films were screened in Dhaka. The distinguished guests present during the inauguration session were Chief of Mission, IOM Bangladesh Giorgi Gigauri, International Relations, University of Dhaka Professor Dr Delwar Hossain, film director N Rashed Chowdhury, DU Film Society lifetime member Biplob Mustafiz, DU Film Society moderator Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Addditional Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen and Ambassador, European Union to Bangladesh, H E Rensje Teerink. 

The event also included two sessions where stakeholders held a discussion session with the audience. State Minister of Information, Bangladesh Government, Dr Murad Hasan, MP Deputy Chief of Mission, IOM Bangladesh, Emrah Guler, actor Fazlur Rahman Babu, Head of Migration Program, BRAC, Shariful Hasan, filmmaker and writer, Sadat Hossain and Film and Photography Department, University of Dhaka Professor Dr Shafiul Alal Bhuiyan were present at the closing session of the festival.
