Global Covid cases top 182.5 million

The global Covid-19 caseload has now surged past 182.5 million, with the world still struggling to contain the second outbreak of the virus.

The total caseload and fatalities stand at 182,566,186 and 3,953,911, respectively, as of Friday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

So far, 3,086,275,851 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.

The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,678,270 cases, according to the JHU data.

Besides, 605,012 people have lost their lives in the US to date.

India, the second-most affected country after the US, passed another distressing mark of 400,271 deaths, with 796 more people succumbing to the virus till Thursday morning.

India's Covid-19 case tally rose to 30,453,937 on Thursday, after 43,360 new infections were recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the federal health ministry.

Brazil registered 1,953 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 520,189, the health ministry said Thursday.

A total of 63,140 new infections were detected during the period, raising the total caseload to 18,622,304, the ministry said.
