Girls outperform boys in SSC results

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results have been published with a total of 93.58 percent of students succeeding this year. 

The pass rate has increased by 10.71 percent as compared to last year. Last year, the percentage was 82.87.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the results virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday. The main event took place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. There the Prime Minister announced the results after inaugurating the free textbook distribution programme.

1,792,312 candidates under 9 general education boards took part in the examination and 1,686,211 have passed. The pass rate for the general education board stands at 94.08 percent.

Out of 2,92,569 candidates of Madrasah Education Board, 2,72,722 have passed. The pass rate for Madrasah Education Board stands at 93.22 percent. 1,55,514 students appeared for the examination under the Technical Education Board. Of them, 1,37, 613 have passed. The pass rate for the Technical Education Board stands at 88.49. 

Mymensingh witnessed the highest pass rate among general education boards with a percentage of 97.52.

93.15 percent students passed the SSC exams under Dhaka Board, 91.12 percent under Chattogram, 96.27 percent in Cumilla, 90.19 percent in Barisal, 96.78 percent in Sylhet, 94.80 percent in Dinajpur, 93.09 percent in Jashore, and 94.71 percent in Rajshahi Board.

A total of 1,83,340 students got the grade point average of 5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards across Bangladesh this year. 

Among the GPA 5 holders this year, 1,03,578 are female while 79,762 are male.

A total of 1,63,840 students achieved GPA 5 under the nine general education boards, while 14,313 obtained the grade under the Madrasah Education Board and 5,187 under the Technical Education Board.

A total of 49,530 students scored GPA-5 in Dhaka Board, 12,791 in Chattogram, 14,626 in Cumilla, 10,219 in Barishal, 4,834 in Sylhet, 17,578 in Dinajpur, 16,461 in Jashore, 27,709 in Rajshahi and 10,092 in Mymensingh.

A total of 22,40,395 students sat for this year's SSC and equivalent exams. Of them, 20,96,546 students passed the examinations.

After the announcement of results, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni in a press briefing on Thursday said that the SSC examination of 2022 will be completed between June-July.

The education minister said, “Even though SSC exams used to be held on February 1 and HSC on April 1, this tradition has been postponed. An effort will be made to bring the exams to regular time. If there is not much difficulty, then we will try to take next year's exam in June-July. However, everything will depend on the situation.”

She further said that the University Grants Commission has been instructed to take the next year's university admission test in short syllabus and they will take a decision in this regard after meeting with the Vice Chancellors of the public universities.
