Former Deputy Speaker Ali Ashraf laid to rest

Former Deputy Speaker Professor Ali Ashraf MP, who had been elected 5 times as MP of Bangladesh Awami League from Cumilla-7 (Chandina) parliamentary constituency died at the age of 74 on Friday (July 30).

His first Janaja was held at 11 am on Saturday at Chandina's Women's University College. His second Namaz-e-Janaja was held at 2 am at Dollai Nawabpur and his third and last Namaz-e-Janaja was held at 4 pm at his own village home in Gallai. He was later, laid to rest in his family graveyard next to his parents' grave. 

People from all walks of life including President Abdul Hamid Khan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Finance Minister Aham Mostafa Kamal and members of the Council of Ministers have expressed their condolences over his death.

He was admitted to Square Hospital on July 10 with a sudden onset of diabetic and gallbladder infections due to old age. He was admitted to the ICU on July 13 and was kept on life support since July 21. Fighting with death for 9 days, Ali Ashraf MP left the world on Friday 3:30 pm. He is survived by his wife, 4 daughters and 1 son.

The nation will remember this heroic freedom fighter for ages, through his deeds. In his death, the people of the country lost an experienced parliamentarian. There has been irreparable damage to the Awami League's political arena said his admirers.
