Flood situation in north-east districts improving

The flood situation in the country’s north-eastern districts, after causing heavy damages and creating immense public sufferings, likely to improve today.
According to the latest report of National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) unveiled at 4:00PM on Friday, the condition might improve in Sylhet, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Jamalpur, and Bogura districts in the next 24 hours.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has formed NDRCC to provide weather and disaster related forecasting so that the authorities could adopt necessary measures. The NDRCC report, however, said the flood condition might deteriorate in Manikganj, Rajbari, and Munshiganj districts today.

According to the forecasting of Bangladesh and India Met offices, there is no possibility of heavy downpour today in the India’s provinces situated at the Bangladesh’s upstream basin. According to NDRCC report, the water levels of Jamuna and Brahmaputra rivers started to go down on Friday and will continue today.

However, the uprising of water levels of Ganga-Padma rivers will also continue today while the water levels at Old Brahmaputra river and Sureshwor point of Padma river could cross the danger level, the report says.The flood situation, as per the NDRCC report, may be stable in the Tangail and Sirajganj district.

The water level at Elashinghat point of Dhaleshwari River was flowing above 67 centimeter of danger level, and the water level at Kalihati point of Jumuna River was 63 cm above the danger level, deteriorating the district’s flood situation.
