Flood situation in country likely to deteriorate again

The Water Development Board (WDB) has said that the flood situation in the country has improved temporarily for some time, but it is likely to worsen again after August 14.

WDB flood forecasting and warning center executive engineer Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan said that the water level of Brahmaputra-Jamuna river has already started rising which may continue for the next 48 hours. On the other hand, the water level of Ganga-Padma river has decreased which may also continue similarly.

Meanwhile, the water level of Surma-Kushiyara river in the Upper Meghna Basin in the north-east is also rising which may continue for the next 24 hours. On the other hand, in the next 24 hours, the flood situation in the low-lying areas adjacent to Dhaka City Corporation may improve.

At present the water of five rivers in the country is flowing over the danger line at six points. Gauri River is flowing in Singra, water of Dhaleshwari is flowing in Elasin, water of Turag is flowing in Mirpur, water of Tongi canal is flowing in Tongi, water of Dhaleshwari is flowing in Jagir and water of Padma is flowing in Goalanda.

Rainfall has started to increase in different states of the border nation of India and in the north of the country. There are signs of further growth next week. Due to the increase in rainfall in India, the country has already experienced two floods this year.
