Flood situation in Atrai worsened

Flood situation in Atrai under Naogaon district has been further deteriorated with the onrush of water from the upstream for last one week. 

The situation worsened as new areas of the upazila have been flooded following the breach of cross dams of the Atrai river at Bhartentulia and Modhugurnoi villages points. 

The water of Atrai river is now flowing 70 centimetre above the danger marks. Most of the areas of Shibpur village adjacent to Upazila Parishad have been plunged under water making thousands of people waterlogged. Many of them have taken shelter on the embankment or on elevated roadside to get rid of the flood.  

All the flood control embankments of the upazila have become vulnerable due to excessive increase of water. 

The onrush of water is flowing  through Sadupur point of Atrai-Naogaon road and on Atrai -Porakhali road. Water is also learnt to flow over the Kasiabari sluice gate and on places of Atrai-Bandhaikhara road. 

Movement of all sort of vehicles through the road has been suspended due to the flood and. Movement of heavy vehicles through Atrai-Naogaon, Atrai-Bandhaikhara, Atrai-Kaliganj and Atrai-Singra have also been banned temporarily by the concerned authorities. 

The Upazila Administration, however, distributed 10 kilogrammes of rice each as relief among 1,800 affected families. 

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanaul Islam in this connection informed, water of the Atrai river has been flowing 70 centimetre abover the danger mark. 

The roads and embankment of the upazila have turned vulnerable and cracks have been formed on Rasulpur, Bandaikhara, Malipukur points of Atrai-Naogaon highway. 

Upazila administration in association with local people were trying hard to  save those roads from being eroded,  he added.
