The ferry service on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route has been resumed after the ferry service was suspended due to river erosion and naval crisis.

On Sunday (September 20) at around 7:30 am, a ferry left Shimulia Ghat for Kathalbari via the new China Channel.

Earlier on Friday, the ferry service with this channel was started experimentally but it was stopped again.

Mawa Traffic Police Inspector (TI) Helal Uddin said, “The ferry service has been made limited with the help of 4 to 5 small and medium type ferries. However, ro-ro ferries have not been launched yet.

He added that a ferry from Kathalbari reached Shimulia Ghat at around 8:30 am without any hindrance or problem. As the channel was normal, BIWTC allowed the ferry to leave Shimulia Ghat at 6.30 am.

Incidentally, the ferry service was completely shut down on September 3 due to the naval crisis. After that, the channel of Louhjong Turning Point was started by dredging for some time. Six days later, on Friday afternoon, September 11, three ferries left Shimulia Ghat for Kathalbari. Till Saturday, the ferries were crossing via wharfs No. 1 and 2 in 4 K type and medium type ferries.
