Faridul for frequent interfaith dialogue to maintain communal harmony

State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan has called for frequent interfaith dialogue in district and upazila levels for maintaining religious and communal harmony everywhere in the society.

He termed the religious and communal violence as one of the major obstacles towards the present development process.

So, concerted efforts of religious leaders from all faiths and frequent interfaith dialogue can be the best ways of ensuring peace and tranquility.

State Minister Faridul Haque came up with the observation while addressing a district level interfaith dialogue at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Rajshahi on Tuesday as chief guest.

On behalf of its "Enhancing Awareness on Religious Harmony" project, the Ministry of Religious Affairs organized the dialogue largely attended by government and non-government officials concerned, public representatives, religious leaders, professional leaders and other stakeholders. Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Ayen Uddin, MP, also addressed the meeting as special guests with DC Abdul Jalil in the chair.

State Minister Faridul Haque said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for transforming Bangladesh into a developed one and none should be given any scope of hindering the endeavor.

In this context, he said interfaith dialogues and intensified efforts are very important to combat communalism, militancy and extremism coupled with freeing the society from all trouble-making elements.

He said dialogue should be held in such a way that participants are able to learn from others' religious experiences, and good practices as none religion supports violence and terrorism.

Mayor Liton underlined the need for organising and promoting extensive interfaith dialogues with a stronger approach at community levels to create a strong public opinion in favour of peaceful religious practices.

He said the present government has been working relentlessly for establishing communal harmony in the society to make the society free from all sorts of violence.

Khairuzzaman Liton, who is also Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League, called for concerted efforts of religious leaders from all faiths to combat terrorism and extremism everywhere in the society.
