Family planning progs for safe motherhood stressed

Health experts have stressed on expanding family planning programs to further reduce maternal and neonatal deaths by ensuring safe motherhood and containing population growth rate.

They viewed this at an advocacy meeting cum press briefing organised by the District Department of Family Planning (DFP) at the divisional office of DFP here on Monday before launching the Family Welfare Service and Publicity Week- 2022 from December 17 to December 22 in the district.

Rangpur Divisional Director of the DFP Dewan Morshed Kamal attended the occasion as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the District FPD Dr Sheikh Md Saidul Islam in the chair.

Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Habibur Rahman and Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Shamim Ahmed addressed the occasion as special guests.

Assistant Director of the DFP ATM Nazmul Haque, Sadar Upazila Family Planning Officer Md. Shihab Uddin also spoke.

In his welcome speech, Dr Saidul Islam narrated field level successes achieved in keeping family smaller through adopting different family planning methods like short, medium and long- term and long acting permanent method across the district.

He also discussed the risks and consequences of unplanned pregnancy putting stress on inspiring 100 percent able couples in adopting family planning methods to attain the sustainable development goals by 2030.

The chief guest said Bangladesh has earned global appreciation in the health sector by reaching family planning and health services to the people's doorsteps, ensuring safe motherhood and successfully reducing the maternal and neonatal deaths.

"All able couples should adopt short, medium, long-term and permanent methods to prevent unplanned pregnancy and ensure safe motherhood for building a healthier nation on the way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041 next," he added.
