Police arrested a fake official of the Army from a bridal party at a village in Jhenidah Sadar in the early hours of Sunday. The arrested was identified as Sraban Chowdhury alias Jiban Chowdhury alias Titon, 29. He is son of Serajul Islam of Dhanyaharia village of Moheshpur upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenidah Sadar police station Mijanur Rahman Khan said that acting on a tip off, police detained him from Laudia Ratanhat village at about 3:000 am.
The villagers on suspicion informed the police that someone identifying himself a second a lieutenant of the Army, was marrying a girl. The police men rushed to bridal party and challenged the man who produced a fake identity card as a second lieutenant. Awami League’s Jadabpur union committee president, also an ex ward member, said the arrestee had been cheating the people in the name of the Army or RAB and married for at least five times.
Now he was living with one of the wives and a boy child. His father Serajul Islam is a Jamaat activist. OC said that Titon was wanted in three cases including women and child repression act with Moheshpur police station and absconding for a long. Meanwhile, people of the area demanded exemplary punishment of fake army official. They are happy over his arrest.
