Import-export trade between the two countries has started through Benapole port on Tuesday morning after a four-day holiday on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Benapole Port Deputy Director (Traffic) Abdul Jalil said import-export between India and Bangladesh has resumed from Tuesday morning. From morning till noon, 95 trucks of goods were imported through Benapole port. 25 trucks of goods have exported from Bangladesh to India. “We instructed to the officers to delivered the goods urgent,” he added.

Benapole is the largest and most lucrative in the 12 ongoing land ports in the country.

As the communication system is very easy, 80 percent raw materials of the industrial factories in the country are imported through this port.  Benapole port is next to Chittagong port in terms of revenue.

It is learned that the import-export trade between Benapole and Petrapole ports was closed for four days on October 23 during the weekly holiday and Durga Puja of the followers of traditional religions.

Due to the closure of 4 days, the government has to be deprived of a large amount of revenue. The daily revenue income of customs house is more than 20 crore taka.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman said, after being closed for 4 days, import and export has been resumed from today. All the officers have been directed to work expeditiously to make up for the loss of revenue.
