Ex-husband is arrested for throwing acid in wife's face after divorce in Natore's Baraigram.
The incident took place around 6 pm on Monday ,November 23. After that the police conducted a raid at night and arrested him from Moukhara of the upazila.The name of the accused is Abu Taleb (38) son of Dudu Miah of Ahmedpur area.
Injured Nargis Akhter Nupur (28) has been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in critical condition. Nupur is the daughter of Tayez Uddin of Kamardaha village in the same upazila.
Nupur’s father said,” Seven years ago, Abu Taleb forcibly married college student Nupur. Nupur divorced Taleb last Thursday and moved to her father's house as Taleb was a fugitive in various cases and went into hiding with multiple arrest warrants.
On hearing about the matter, Taleb went to the house around 8 pm on Monday and threw acid on Nupur's face and fled quickly.
According to family sources, "After getting acid on her face, Nupur's family members rescued her and took her to Bonpara Health Care Hospital."
Amanullah Amanat, a doctor on duty at the Health Care Hospital, said, "The acid that was thrown at the anklet did not cause much damage to the skin, but there is a risk of eye damage." She was later sent to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baraigram Police Station Anwarul Islam confirmed the incident and said, “He will be sent to jail through the court on Tuesday”.
