Of the 10 people who escaped from the 250-bed Jessore General Hospital, seven India returnees were handed over to the court on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, however, the hospital authorities discharged them after they tested Covid-19 negative twice.

Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Touhidul Islam confirmed that the detainees were handed over to the court on the request of the police.

On April 23 and 24, some of the passengers who returned from India were kept in the institutional quarantine at the 250-bed Jessore General Hospital. Later, a total of 10 corona infected patients including 7 Indian returnees escaped from the hospital.

On April 26 when the matter was reported in various news outlets it became viral. After 24 hours of combing operations in different districts, all the fugitives were identified and brought back to the hospital.

On May 8, the police of Jashore Kotwali Police Station lodged a complaint against the fugitives under Section 25 (2) of the Infectious Diseases Prevention (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act, 2016.
