Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister M Shahab Uddin on Saturday said environmentally harmful brick kilns will be shut down by 2025 to protect human health from various diseases, reports BSS.

“Traditional brick kilns are posing serious threat to environment….So, we need to develop environment friendly brick kilns for stopping air pollution,” he told at the inaugural function of an environment-friendly brick kiln at Haripur in Sylhet. Director General of Department of Environment Dr AKM Rafiq, officials of different organisation concerned, among others, addressed the function with Chief Executive Officer of Ecobrick Industry Mithu Talukdar in the chair.

The minister said the traditional brick making industry causes extensive use of coal, firewood, grabbing of cropland, farmland, heavy loss of top soil and unwanted air pollution. “We are taking initiatives to promote environment friendly brick industry for safeguarding the environment,” he added.
