Environment activists protest dumping in Padma

In protest against the dumping of sand inside the river bed of Padma near Rajshahi by an influential quarter, leaders of Paribesh Anodolon Oikkya Parishad in Rajshahi has declared to arrange human chain programmes at the entrance of Talaimari Balughat Sand dune/storage) from December 23 Monday at 11: 00 am every day. 

Sources of PAOP informed, conscious people of Rajshahi were worried due to indiscriminate dumping of sand inside the riverbed of the river Padma near Talaimari and other places of the city. Leaders of PAOP have also drawn attention of RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque to take immediate step to stop dumping of sand on the river bed by the vested quarters. 

Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman Raj, Convener of Swadhinata Charcha Kendro and also a veteran leader of PAOP informed, an influential quarter in Rajshahi has started dumping of sand along the river bed of the river Padma near Talaimari Balurghat area aiming to 'kill' normal flow of the river. In protest against such illegal attempt, PAOP activists will arrange human chains at the entrance of Talaimari Bazaar Balurghat from Monday morning daily. He further said, people of Rajshahi were united to foil any nasty ploy to occupy the river Padma, however influential he might be.
