Ensuring equal rights of boys, girls stressed

Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi city underlined ensuring equal rights of boys and girls equally to take the country forward.

They also put importance on the holistic approach of all governments, non-government organizations and individuals to protect children rights.

The children must be freed from all sorts of cruelties and inhuman behaviours, violation, repression and deprivation for building them as worthy citizens.

They were addressing a meeting to mark the World Children Day together with inaugurating the Child Rights Week- 2022 jointly organized by district administration and shishu academy at its conference hall on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Jalil addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Joya Maria Perera was in the chair.

District Children Affairs Officer Monzur Quader, Project Director of SOS Children Village Badrul Monir and Shishu Academy Trainer Monjury Nishi also spoke on the occasion.

DC Abdul Jalil said children should be taught positive social values and encouraged to learn good manners at an early age emphasizing the need for ensuring children's safety and security and stopping child marriage for the greater national interest.

He added responsive and sensible social and political initiatives are crucial for protecting rights of children particularly those in the slums and underprivileged ones for transforming them into worthy citizens.

The DC said the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards protecting child rights.

He urged the field-level government and non-government organisations concerned to supplement the government endeavour in this regard.
