Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, is celebrated at the end of the Ramadan after one month of fasting. According to the rules, devout Muslims celebrate Eid on the first day of the month of Shawwal.

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country tomorrow (Monday) if the moon of the month of Shawwal is sighted in Bangladesh sky today (Sunday).

The National Moon Sighting Committee will sit in a meeting in the evening today (Sunday) to take decision in this regard after reviewing the information of the moon sighting.

This information was given in a press release of the Islamic Foundation on Saturday.

The meeting will be held at the conference room of Islamic foundation in Baitul Mukarram Mosque.

The meeting will be chaired State Minister for Religious Affairs and National Moon Sighting Committee president Md Faridul Haque Khan.

If the moon is not sighted today (Sunday), Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday.

The Islamic Foundation has requested the people of the country to call the Moon Sighting Committee at 02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916 and 02-41050917, or send a fax at 02-223383397 and 02-9555951 in case the new moon is sighted anywhere in the country tonight.

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in a limited scale last year due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Eid prayers were also not held at the National Eidgah in the last two years.

However, due to the recent decline in the incidence of corona, people’s lives have returned to normalcy. This year the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be held at the National Eidgah. Last-minute preparations are going on in full swing on the Supreme Court premises for this purpose.

The law enforcement agencies are working to ensure the security of the Eidgah ground. CCTV cameras are being installed all around. About 84,000 devotees can perform Eid prayers together at the National Eidgah. Separate arrangements have been also made for women.

The main Eid congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8:30 am. However, if the weather does not remain favorable, preparations have been made to hold the main jamaat at the BaitulMukarram National Mosque at 9 am.

Besides, Eid congregations will be held in other mosques of the city. The Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat at Miya Shaheb's Maidan Khanka Sharif Jame Masjid will be held in two slots, the first jamat at 7:45 and the second one at 8:30 am at Luxmi Bazar of Old Dhaka, said a press release.

Eid prayer will be held at Nurani Jame Masjid at Luxmi Bazar at 7:45 and 8:30 am respectively.
