Prices of eggs have started to fall following the announcement of 'Eggs to be imported if necessary' to keep the egg market stable. On Thursday, the price of eggs per dozen decreased by at least Tk 25.
However, before the announcement per dozen egg was being sold at Tk 165 which is now Tk 140 as found in different kitchen markets on Thursday.
Retailers said that today the wholesale price of 100 eggs is Tk 1100. But they are selling Tk 140 per dozen and four pieces are being sold at Tk 50.
In order to reduce the price, eggs will be imported, if necessary, on Wednesday (August 17) the day after Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi's statement, the price of eggs decreased by Tk 5 to Tk 10.
On Thursday (August 18), it was found that red and white eggs were being sold at Tk 50 per egg in different markets of the capital. A day earlier on Wednesday (August 17) it was sold at Tk 55 to Tk 60 apiece. As a result, the price of eggs (four pieces) in the retail market has decreased by Tk 8 to Tk 10 in just one day.
Tejgaon Egg Traders Association President Aman Ullah told media that the price of chicken feed has increased. On top of that, the price of eggs has increased due to the increase in the price of fuel oil.
When asked whether the price of eggs has been reduced in view of the Commerce Minister's statement that eggs will be imported, Aman Ullah said, "We also want to reduce the price of eggs but we have no way."
He also said that with the increase in the price of eggs, the sale has decreased. Our business has also decreased. However, although the price of layer chicken eggs has decreased, the price of local chicken or duck eggs has not decreased. A dozen of duck eggs are being sold at Tk 220 to Tk 230 and a dozen of local chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 240 to Tk 250.
