‘Edn institutes kept shut to ensure student’s safety’

The government has not yet opened educational institutions emphasizing on the health and safety of students in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, said Education Minister Dipu Moni.

She made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a virtual launching event titled 'Translate a Story Initiative in Bangladesh' on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh UNESCO National Commission and UNESCO Dhaka Office.

"The government has not yet opened educational institutions with the highest priority on protecting the health of students in this global catastrophe but, their online classroom activities are ongoing," the Minister for Education said.

She also remarked that the initiative taken by UNESCO and various partner organizations through 'Translate Story Initiative Bangladesh' would be a milestone in the development of students' talents.

Speaking as the special guest, Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said, "These books translated into one's own language will relieve the stress of students who have to stay at home for a long time and take regular online classes."

In addition, Secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Mahbub Hossain joined the event as a special guest.

Moreover, Beatrice Kaldun, UNESCO Head of Office and Country Representative to Bangladesh delivered the inaugural address at the event.

UNESCO's National Commission Deputy Secretary to Bangladesh General Sohail Imam Khan delivered the closing speech on the occasion.
