University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep grief over the death of Ekushey Padak winning Rabindra Sangeet artist Mita Haque.
In a condolence message on Sunday the Vice-Chancellor said that Mita Haque was a famous and popular Rabindra Sangeet artist and musician of the country. This non-communal and humane artist has enriched the music sector of the country by being involved in the cultural movement.
Her death caused irreparable damage to the country's art and culture. This popular artist will be remembered for her outstanding contribution to Rabindra Sangeet, he added. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman prayed for the soul of the deceased and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Mita Haque died at a hospital in the capital on Sunday at the age of 59 years.
