DU exam hall named after Leela Nag

Dhaka University on Thursday named its arts faculty exam hall after its first female student, Leela Roy Nag.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman unveiled the nameplate of the exam hall as the chief guest on 5th floor of Arts Building of the University, reads a press release.

Du Arts faculty dean Professor Dr Abdul Basir presided over the inauguration ceremony while English Department chairperson Professor Zerin Alam, teachers and students from different departments of the university attended the programme.

Prof Akhtaruzzaman paid deep respect to Leela Nag. 

“Leela Nag enrolled at the University of Dhaka in 1921. She engaged herself to the social reformation after her academic life and greatly contributed to the social transformation,” Prof Akhtaruzzaman said.

DU VC urged female students to be inspired from Leela Nag’s life and education to make themselves brave and active women.

Leela Roy nee Nag (2 October 1900-11 June 1970) was the first female graduate of the University of Dhaka.

Leela Nag was a social activist emphasizing education for girls. She started the second girls school in Dhaka She was also a politician and reformer and a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
