Drug trader gets life in Rajshahi

A Rajshahi tribunal on Thursday convicted a person and sentenced him to life in prison on charge of possessing 500 grams of heroin in the city around two years back, reports BSS.

The convict identified as Shariful Islam, 48, from Charboyarmary village under Godagari Upazila in the district, was also fined Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more behind the bar.

Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Tribunal Judge Anup Kumar found him guilty and pronounced the verdict in presence of him in the court.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that a team of police detectives arrested Shariful Islam with 500 grams of heroin from C&B crossing area under Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi city on May 16, 2017. Subsequently, he was handed over to police after recording a case in this connection, said Entajul Haque Babu, Special Public Prosecutor of the court.

Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges accusing him.
