Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a ten-day special campaign to eradicate Aedes mosquito, a carrier of dengue fever, from Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that DNCC Mayor Md.Atiqul Islam announced a 10-day mosquito (dengue and Aedes) eradication program in the DNCC area after taking part in the anti-AIDS and anti-dengue awareness road rally in Uttara on May 11 morning. The program will run from 17 to 26 May.

On Tuesday, in the morning in Gulshan adjacent to Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park, a ten-day special mosquito eradication campaign was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Md Selim Reza.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Selim Reza said, "The mayor has given strict instructions that if any mosquito larvae are found in any building, house under construction, in any government, private or semi-government organization or even in any office of City Corporation, legal action will be taken."

He further said, "Dhaka North City Corporation has regular mosquito control activities throughout the year. This season, under the direction of the mayor, we have already identified hot spots and are conducting regular work at regional and ward level."

Md Selim Reza appealed to the people of the city to destroy the source of Aedes by not letting water collect and become stagnant in their homes. Dengue can be prevented only if everyone is aware.

Responding to a question from reporters, he said, "The whole area of DINC is being divided into four hundred square yards and is being monitored regularly by volunteers. Nine hundred and fifty volunteers have already been enlisted and trained."

During this time he visited several buildings under construction with other officials.

Also present at the time were DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md Jobaidur Rahman, local councilors and other senior officials.
