As the Thanchi Bazar road in Bandarban is very small, there has been a directive to widen the road due to various problems including traffic. After the Thanchi market was gutted in a fire on the morning of April 27, the instructions were given to the market fund by the chairman of the Hill District Council, Kyaw Shwe Hla.

According to local sources, not even a small vehicle can enter the main market of Thanchi Upazila due to the small size of the road. As a result, in case of any untoward incident in the coming days, this initiative has been taken for the entry of fire service, ambulance and security forces vehicles.

And as part of this, the market fund will acquire 5 feet of space on both sides of the main road of the market. Meanwhile, the district council has instructed Thanchi Bazar Chowdhury and the upazila administration to pave the road. The locals think that the upazila attracts a large number of tourists every year. And tourists shop in this market. The road to the bazar is so small that ordinary people, including tourists, cannot move freely. When a small car enters there, the movement of ordinary people is obstructed. So the initiative to widen the road is seen as positive by the locals.

In this regard, the Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council Kyaw Shwe Hla said, “The road in Thanchi Bazar is so narrow that it is very difficult for people to move. This initiative has been taken for the benefit of the people of Thanchi.” Incidentally, the main road of Ruma Upazila Bazar in Bandarban is very small but in the past after a fire the market road was widened by the market fund.
