Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Tuesday said Deputy Commissioners (DCs) had been directed to monitor the market by conducting mobile court round the year to ensure safe food. “The government has been showing zero tolerance against adulteration of food and other products,” he told newsmen after the third session of the ongoing DC Conference at the Cabinet Division, reports BSS.

Tipu said the DCs had been ordered to continue strict monitoring on the market to ensure safe food. They were also asked to monitor the supply of food and essential commodities so the traders and businessmen could not make extra profit showing shortage of supply, he added. Replying to a query, the commerce minister said prices of onion, ginger and garlic would become normal within next 15 days, mentioning that unusual rain damaged onion in India and ginger and garlic in China which pushed the prices of those imported items up. He said prices of essential commodities were under control in the holy month of Ramadan due to the effective measures of the government.
