Cumilla Zila School celebrates 182nd founding anniv

Cumilla Jila School, one of the pioneer of education in the district on Saturday celebrated its 182nd founding anniversary amidst much enthusiasm and fanfare, reports BSS.

On the occasion daylong programs were arranged in the school premises including colourful rally, cake cutting, reminiscence meeting and cultural program.

Justice Mamunur Rashid inaugurated the rally participated by teachers and a large number of former present and former students of the school. The reminiscence meeting was held with former student and valiant freedom fighter Nazmul Hasan Pakhi in the chair. Member of Parliament AKM Bahauddin Bahar was present as the chief guest.

Former secretary Anwar Faruk, headmistress Rasheda Akhter, former student Mhbubul Haque Chotan and Class X student Shudhangshu Sarker spoke on the occasion. On the occasion eight students of the school, who got the President Scouts Shapla Cub Award this year, were given prize.

Founded in 1837 the school gradually emerged as a reputed institution of quality education of the country, creating many worthy citizens including incumbent Chief Justice Mahmud Hasan, former army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan (retd), former chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission Ghulam Rahman and many renowned engineers, doctors, academics, lawyers, litterateurs and cultural personality.

As many as 139 students of the school directly took part in the Liberation War and ten of them embracing martyrdom including Class-VIII student martyred Abu Zahid.
