Cultivation without pesticide starts in Chuadanga

At least 400 farmers have been cultivating safe food and safe vegetables without using pesticide and chemical fertilizers on 2,314 bighas of land at 40 villages of Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district under the project of Water Saving Safe and Eco-friendly Efficient Agriculture Practice (WSSEAP) organised by Pratasha Samazik Unnayan Sangstha. 

A workshop for the journalists on Project Impact and result of WSSEAP was held at Pratasha Samazik Unnayan Sangstha Conference room on March 14. The workshop was presided over by Billal Hossain, Managing Director of the sangstha. Moniruzzaman, Agriculture Officer of Damurhuda Upazila Agriculture Office, Sazib Pal, Safety Food Officer, Sardar Al Amin, President of Chuadanga Press Club, Nazmul Hoque  Swapan, Chief Editor of Daily Somoyer Samikoron, Zannatul Awlia Nishi, Editor of Daily Akash Khabar and Rubayet Bin Azad, Executive Editor of Daily Pashchimanchal were present as guests. The key note paper was presented by Tofayel Ahmed, Coordinator of the project. 

    According to key note paper, about 400 farmers including 80 female farmers have been cultivating different type of vegetables and paddy at their crop field without chemical fertilizers. They are using compost fertilizers at the crop. Pesticide is not used at the crop. 

    On the other hand farmers are watering in the crop through tube system which is more low cost than cannel system. 

    Over 40 farmers, out of total have drug 40 separate min-ponds at the crop field. They are producing fishes there and vegetables on the banks of mini-ponds.

    Farmers Abdur Razzak and Ashrafuzzaman Pintu expressed their experience in this regards before journalists.
