Ctg BRTA collects fine TK 1.4 crore in six months

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chattogram launched effective programs against the unfit, license less vehicles and its drivers to bring back discipline in the streets and ensure road safety, reports BSS. 

BRTA Chattogram, in view of regaining road discipline across the country, the authority launched crash programme through its four divisional mobile courts and collected Tk 1.4 crore 12 thousand and 250 lakh in 3810 cases filed against different mode of transports and drivers who run their respective vehicles without fitness and license for flouting traffic rules.

The programme which began on 1st January 2019 to June 30 last also sentenced 17 persons to different terms imprisonment, dumped huge date expired vehicles and seized documents of 593 vehicles.

Deputy Director BRTA, Chattogram Engineer Mohammad Shahidullah told BSS that the drive through mobile courts was halted earlier in 2018, in absence of executive magistrates for long.

“We are now conducting the drives against traffic rules violators after appointment of four magistrates for ensuring safety road,” he said.

He said the mobile courts in addition of taking punitive measures against illegal transport are also carrying out massive public awareness among drivers, transport owners, passengers and pedestrians in order to ensure road safety.
