‘Create congenial atmosphere to hold neutral polls in Bijoynagar’

A candidate of Bijoynagar Upazila Parishad elections has demanded ensuring of peaceful and natural environment for the election in the upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Lutfur Rahman, husband of Nusima Lutfur Rahman, raised the demand on behalf of his wife at a press conference at Brahmanbaria Press Club on Sunday. Lutfar Rahman is the president of Kuwait-Bangladesh Business Council.

Nasima Lutfur Rahman is a possible independent candidate in the upazila elections. Her vehicle was attacked and fired.

Lutfur Rahman demanded action against the attackers. He also demanded ensuring security of his wife so that she can smoothly carries out her electoral campaign.

Lutfur Rahman said that a case was filed against Chairman of Harshpur Union Parishad Sarwar Rahman Bhuiyan, his son Darpan Bhuiyan and five others, including the unidentified 30 people.

On Saturday night, Rafiqul Islam filed the case with Bijaynagar Police Station.

In the press conference, Lutfur Rahman alleged that another candidate and current chairman Awami League leader Tanvir Bhuiyan and his men attacked nine vehicles of his wife and supporters on May 15 night at Aktarpur area of the upazila. At that time a car was burnt down.

Later, police and locals rescued workers and supporters. The leaders and workers were returning together after the a mass contact and Iftar party. At least 20 people were injured in the incident.

It is alleged that Harshpur Union Parishad chairman and his son led the attack. Police lingered to take the case, he alleged at the press conference.
