Covid positivity rate exceeds 13 percent

Bangladesh recorded 2,576 new infections till 8am Thursday, increasing the positivity rate. The total number of people infected has reached 8,20,395 with the new cases.

The current positivity rate stands at 13.25 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.39 percent, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday. The positivity rate went above 13 percent on 25th April last. 

The country registered 40 more deaths from Covid-19 in the meantime, taking the death toll to 12,989, added the release.

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country. 

The number of fatalities and the number of newly infected has increased compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 36 deaths and 2,537 new cases on Wednesday. 

Among the 40 deceased, 31 were men, and 9 were women. Of the victims, 37 died in different hospitals across the country while three died at home. 

12 of the deceased were from the Chattogram division, eight each from Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, six from Khulna, four from Rangpur, and two were from Sylhet division.

19,447 samples were tested across the country till 8am Thursday. 

At least 2,061 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,59,630 and the recovery rate at 92.59 percent.  

As of Thursday, 3,778,163 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 175,216,073 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.

Meanwhile, border districts are facing difficulties to accommodate patients as infections continue to surge.
