A total of 47 people died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning. The total death toll rose to 13,117 with the latest figure. The infection rate in a day is 12.99 percent.

Moreover, 2,436 people have been newly infected with Covid -19. A total of 18,749 samples were tested. The total number of infected people increased to 826,922, according to the latest Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) update of Sunday.

However, 2,242 people have recovered in 24 hours. With this, a total of 608,026 people have recovered in the country so far. Fatalities rose compared to Friday and Saturday where the number of deaths were 43 and 39 respectively.  The number of people infected on Friday was 2,454 and on 1837Saturday. As a result, deaths and identities have both increased in the country in the last day.

Whether the spreading of the virus is under control in a country depends on some indicators set by the World Health Organization. One of them is the patient identification rate. If the patient identification rate is below 5pc for more than two consecutive weeks, the situation is considered to be under control.

From the beginning to the end of February this year, the detection rate was below 3pc. Two months later, on March 10, the daily infections crossed the thousand people mark once again. Since then, daily cases have been increasing.

Public health experts believe that the situation is deteriorating in the second wave of corona infections in the country.

However, despite the alarming rise in infections, people are still reluctant to follow health rules. Public health experts said that there is no substitute of hygiene including wearing masks.
