Covid cases rise rapidly, cross 44,000 in Ctg

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly crossed the 44,000 mark in Chattogram where the infection rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks, reports BSS.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily rose to 44,091 as 523 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 2791 samples with the daily infection rate of 18.74 percent on Friday in the district.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health expert of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks due to continuous increasing corona infections here.

Among the newly detected patients, 429 are from Chattogram city and 94 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

The infection toll now stands at 44,091 and with the three deaths on Friday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 414, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.

Among the reported fatalities, 303 were the residents of the port city and the rest 111 were from different upazilas of the district.

Civil surgeon told BSS that among the infected persons, 35,327 are the residents of the port city and the rest 8764 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 34,700 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 82 more patients on Thursday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 78.70.

A total of 1314 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
