‘Come forward to save marginalised people’

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque said the epidemic has severely damaged the lives and livelihoods of marginalized people. The cooperation of the government as well as the private sector is essential to keep the lives and livelihoods of these helpless people afloat.

He was speaking at a programme to provide financial assistance to 195 families of cleaners (domes, sweepers and clinical waste removers) among the miserable and helpless professionals severely affected by the corona.

He said the issue of providing financial assistance of Tk 5,000 per family to the people in distress due to the horrors of corona is a very commendable initiative.

The financial support was held at Khulna Press Club on Wednesday morning. President of Khulna Press Club SM Nazrul Islam was the special guest on the occasion. Rafiqul Islam Khokon, one of the executive directors of Rupantar, Faruk Ahmed, the head of Rupantar's Environment and Disaster Management Program and former president of Khulna Press Club also spoke on the occasion presided over by Rupantar's Executive Director Swapan Kumar Guha. On the other hand, 5,000 cash assistance was provided to 134 families of widows and children at Khulna Press Club on Wednesday afternoon. Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain was the chief guest on the occasion.
