Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday said that Bangladesh signed MoU with India to install coastal surveillance radar system for monitoring pirate’s movement in its maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal, reports BSS.

“It (establishment of radar system) should not be a headache of someone else (neighbouring countries),” he told reporters at his office here today. Replying to a query whether such attempts would affect Bangladesh China relations adversely, the foreign minister confidently said, “No, nothing will happen”.

Currently, he said Bangladesh has limited costal surveillance system to monitor piracy and in protecting the country’s fisheries resources. “Now we can have better surveillance in place,” he added. Bangladesh and India have signed seven bilateral documents, including MoU for providing a ‘Coastal Surveillance System’ on October 5 last during Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent Delhi visit. India has already provided technical support of such systems to Mauritius, Seychelles and Maldives.
